In 2024, it will be 20 years since the first residents moved into \u00d8restad. This milestone will be celebrated with a photo competition and exhibitions featuring photos from the competition and the history of \u00d8restad.<\/p>

The “This is \u00d8restad” photo competition has concluded, and 1,102 photos were submitted between June 20 and August 29. Afterward, the three photographers Trine S\u00f8ndergaard, Tine Reingaard, and Christian Falck Wolff selected the best images.<\/p>

The four winners were announced and received prestigious prizes at an awards ceremony on Saturday, September 14.<\/p>

Below, you can see the four winning photos and the judges’ comments on them. The four winning photos have also been printed in large format and exhibited in the “This is \u00d8restad” exhibition in a storefront at Field\u2019s, along with a graphic timeline of \u00d8restad\u2019s history. The judges’ selected images will also be printed as Go-cards and displayed in large format in public spaces in \u00d8restad, at the Copenhagen Museum, and at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen K. Announcements about these displays will be made via the Instagram profile @thisisorestad<\/strong><\/a>, By & Havn’s newsletters<\/strong><\/a>, and \u00d8restad Avis<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

Judges’ Comments:<\/p>

The picture is compositionally very successful, with a surprising contrast between city and nature. The horses in the foreground, combined with the black and white aesthetics, evoke a sense of the “Wild West”, reflecting \u00d8restad as a place where new settlers take root. These settlers are unafraid of hard work and constitute a community of many nationalities. The horses in the foreground bring movement to the image, while the city and cranes in the background capture the essence of \u00d8restad: A young district under construction, bustling with activity.<\/p>

It’s a vivid and lively picture of nature on the city\u2019s fringe, with fascinating references to \u00d8restad’s origins and unique traits that invite prolonged contemplation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Judges’ Comments:<\/p>

The picture is voyeuristic, personal, and humorous. It offers a glimpse behind \u00d8restad’s fa\u00e7ades. A view from inside, dreaming of sunshine, warmth, and the view from a balcony chair. A dream interrupted by the rainy weather, as \u00d8restad is in Denmark where the weather is famously unpredictable.<\/p>

The picture is intimate, capturing a spontaneous moment that makes the presence of the photographer strongly felt. Its imperfect composition adds to its urgency, immediacy, and humanity. The motif is interesting as well; through the rain-speckled window, we see a softer view of \u00d8restad’s architecture and greenery. Even rainy weather can be beautiful.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A picture of the long stretch. The horizon extends, frozen on multiple levels. It conveys calmness, presence, a moment of connection to the present. An evocative moment when everything stands still. The picture beautifully captures the nature near \u00d8restad, a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else in Copenhagen. The image is striking in its stillness, minimalism, and texture, compelling you to examine it closely.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The triangular balconies of the iconic VM Houses in \u00d8restad have been photographed countless times. However, the photographer presents a fresh, creative angle, allowing the viewer to connect with it on a different level. This radical perspective makes the image abstract and transformative. It could resemble a foggy icy sea, reminiscent of 19th-century explorers discovering new parts of the world, starkly contrasting with the modern urban architecture. The image has a dual nature, evoking a sense of unrest and chaos, contrasting with \u00d8restad’s order, while also being purely aesthetic.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
